Israel Deploys Submarine Off Eilat and Extends Gaza Barrier

An Israeli Navy submarine surfaced off the Red Sea resort city of Eilat, surprising swimmers along the shoreline. The Israel Defense Forces confirmed the vessel was operating in the area as part of ongoing operational activity and said the video of the surfacing was cleared for publication by the military censor. Analysts noted the public appearance of the tightly guarded asset was unusual and speculated it could be a signal to Tehran amid heightened regional tensions.

At the same time, the Israeli army has constructed a 23‑kilometre earthen wall along the so‑called “yellow line” that separates Israeli‑controlled sections of the Gaza Strip from the densely populated Palestinian areas. Satellite imagery shows the barrier, equipped with surveillance and intelligence systems, has been expanded rapidly, with a segment near Rafah growing from 500 m on 1 July to 2.4 km by 15 July. Israeli officials say the wall creates a security zone intended to prevent infiltrations and protect Israeli communities near Gaza, while Palestinian observers fear it may solidify a temporary cease‑fire line into a permanent border.
