Israel deports six Greek union delegates en route to West Bank

Israel's authorities barred entry and deported six Greek trade unionists who had been invited by Palestinian labor organisations to meet in Ramallah, West Bank. The delegation was scheduled to arrive via Ben Gurion Airport.

The expulsions triggered strong condemnation from Greek opposition parties SYRIZA, New Left and EL.AS, which called the measure provocative, authoritarian and a breach of international law. They urged the Greek government to lodge an official protest. Among the expelled was Gióta Lazaropoulou, president of the National Bank Employees Union and member of the New Left Central Committee. The incident occurs amid heightened tension in the region.
