Israel detained over 2,000 Palestinian children since 2023
Reports from the Palestinian Prisoners Society and other human rights organizations indicate that Israel has arrested or detained at least 2,000 Palestinian children over the last three years. As of mid-October 2026, approximately 350 children remain in custody.
Documentation highlights severe conditions within the Israeli prison system, including allegations of torture, starvation, medical neglect, and the use of solitary confinement. Many of these children are held under administrative detention, a practice where individuals are detained without formal charges or a clear timeline for release. This policy has been criticized for depriving children of family stability and educational opportunities.
Human rights advocates, including the Palestinian Centre for Child Rights, have warned of deteriorating living conditions and expressed concern over the lack of access for organizations to evaluate prison conditions. The reports also note difficulties in tracking the exact number of children detained in the Gaza Strip due to reports of forced disappearances.
