Israel detonates large Hezbollah tunnel near Lebanon border

The Israel Defense Forces carried out a targeted operation in southern Lebanon, detonating a tunnel that the Israeli military described as more than 200 metres long and over 25 metres deep. According to the joint statement of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz, the underground complex stored "hundreds of weapons" and contained launch shafts for attacks on Israeli territory. The explosion produced a massive smoke column and was felt as an earthquake by nearby residents.

The strike is part of Israel’s ongoing effort to curb Hezbollah’s underground infrastructure amid a fragile cease‑fire and a recently negotiated framework agreement between Israel and Lebanon. The United States was reportedly informed in advance of the operation. Despite the agreement, tensions along the border remain high, with Hezbollah rejecting the deal and continuing to amass armaments underground.
