Israel eliminates three Hezbollah fighters in southern Lebanon

The Israeli military announced that its forces identified and killed three armed Hezbollah members in the Beit Yahoun area of the security zone in southern Lebanon. The statement said the militants were carrying combat equipment and were eliminated to remove the threat to nearby IDF soldiers.

The incident came shortly after U.S.-brokered Israel‑Lebanon talks in Rome aimed at a permanent peace framework. Analysts note that Israel’s broader approach in the region is shifting away from a large permanent troop presence toward a “dynamic forward defence” that relies on surveillance drones, artificial intelligence, precision intelligence and rapid strike capabilities. ACLED data show a sharp drop in Israeli air and drone attacks after late June, with a greater share of operations now involving shelling and tank fire to maintain pressure around the buffer zone.

According to Nasser Khdour of ACLED, “I don't think Israel wants to return to the old model of keeping permanent bases inside Lebanon,” adding that “reducing troops doesn't mean reducing the capability to keep influence, monitoring and attacking.” The strategy includes clearing villages and destroying infrastructure to reshape the terrain without establishing new permanent bases.
