Southern Lebanon: Israeli shelling and troop advances cause casualties
Israeli military operations in southern Lebanon have resulted in casualties and increased tensions between Israeli forces and the Lebanese army. Artillery shelling in Chaqra, located in the Bint Jbeil district, injured two individuals who were subsequently transported to Tebnin hospital.
In the Marjayoun region, a standoff occurred near Deir Mimas when Israeli tanks advanced toward a Lebanese army observation post. The Lebanese military reported that Israeli forces approached the post and deployed sound bombs before eventually withdrawing. This incident follows ongoing Israeli presence in parts of southern Lebanon since conflict began with Hezbollah in March.
The Lebanese army has condemned recent escalations, stating that attacks on residential areas and institutions violate international law and threaten existing stability frameworks. The military noted that it is working to implement a June 2026 agreement to establish operational control in specific zones. As part of these efforts, the army has established checkpoints, conducted patrols, and confiscated approximately 1,818 pieces of weapons and ammunition, including rocket launchers and drones, to prevent unauthorized activities.
