Israel expands Gaza 'yellow line' triggering fresh civilian displacement
Israeli forces have moved concrete yellow block markers forward, expanding the military zone in Gaza. The new markers now reach Salah al‑Din Street in the Zeitoun district, prompting residents to evacuate. Palestinian resident Assem Dawla said his family has been forced to leave their shelter for the seventh or eighth time since the war broke out.
The yellow line demarcation was established under a U.S.-brokered ceasefire reached in October. It now affects at least five locations across Gaza – Zeitoun, Tuffah, Shejaia, Deir al‑Balah, Khan Younis and northern Rafah – where new waves of displacement are reported. Israel effectively controlled about 64 % of Gaza by late April, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on 28 May that the aim is to expand control to roughly 70 % of the enclave. Hamas has so far refused to disarm. Evacuation warnings are delivered via SMS and drone‑borne loudspeakers, and residents are urged to leave as the security zone advances.
