Israel faces international pressure over settlements and Gaza displacement calls

Twelve nations, including Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom, are considering trade restrictions on goods from Israeli settlements in the West Bank. These countries stated that such settlements are “illegal according to international law” and that Israeli policies in the territory threaten the possibility of a two-state solution. The joint statement noted that the situation is deteriorating due to unprecedented settlement expansion and increased settler violence.

In a separate diplomatic move, Indonesia joined Egypt, Jordan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates in condemning statements by Israeli officials, specifically National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Defense Minister Katz, regarding the potential forced displacement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip. The foreign ministers emphasized that any attempt to relocate the Palestinian population violates international law and humanitarian law, posing a direct threat to peace initiatives and the territorial integrity of the Palestinian territories.
