Israel forces Palestinian family to demolish home in East Jerusalem

Israeli authorities in East Jerusalem issued a demolition notice to a Palestinian family of seven on the first day of the Eid holiday, allowing three days for them to tear down their own house to avoid large fines. The family complied, destroying the dwelling themselves. The incident is part of a broader policy restricting Palestinian construction in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, where Israel has demolished or forced the demolition of over 200 homes since the start of the year. The policy aims to limit Palestinian urban development in areas designated as “C” under the Oslo Accords, often labeling structures as “unlicensed.”
