Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon have resulted in at least 11 deaths and 19 injuries, marking one of the deadliest escalations since a ceasefire agreement was reached in June. The strikes targeted the towns of Ansar and Deir al-Zahrani. In Ansar, a strike on a residential building killed seven people, including three children and two women. In Deir al-Zahrani, another strike killed four people and injured 17 others.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated the operations were a response to Hezbollah attacks that injured three Israeli soldiers near the Ali al-Taher Ridge. The IDF identified Ali Mohammad Fakhr al-Din, a senior commander of Hezbollah’s Badr unit, as one of the targets killed in the strikes. The military also reported the elimination of Ali Samir al-Haj Hassan, a battalion commander in the Radwan Force.

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam condemned the attacks, stating that the victims in Ansar were civilians and not military infrastructure. He warned that the escalation undermines stability and ongoing negotiations. Hezbollah has vowed an appropriate response to the attacks, while the IDF maintains that its operations target Hezbollah military infrastructure and that the group uses civilians as human shields.
