Israel launches air strikes on Lebanon after US‑brokered ceasefire agreement

A cease‑fire and withdrawal framework between Israel and Lebanon was signed in Washington under U.S. mediation, and within 48 hours Israeli warplanes bombed southern Lebanese towns, including Deyr ez‑Seryan and Taybeh. Drones also flew over Beirut’s southern suburbs, and ground forces reportedly set fire to civilian homes in the strategic town of Khiam. Early reports indicated no immediate casualties, but Lebanon’s health ministry says the broader military campaign since March 2 has killed at least 4,246 people, wounded 12,190, and forced more than one million residents to flee their homes.

Hezbollah denounced the agreement as a betrayal, warning of “internal war” if Israel does not fully withdraw and insisting on continued resistance until the Israeli security zone is eliminated. The group rejected any disarmament plan and called for opposition to the deal, while Israeli officials portrayed the cease‑fire as a historic achievement. The latest clashes have revived humanitarian concerns and heightened tensions across the border.
