Israel-Lebanon Accord Sparks Hezbollah Opposition

Hezbollah secretary‑general Sheikh Naïm Qassem denounced the framework agreement signed in Washington between Lebanon’s authorities and Israel, calling it "free concessions to Israel" and a betrayal of Lebanese sovereignty. He argued the deal violates Lebanon’s constitution, which treats Israel as an enemy, and warned it undermines the resistance.

The agreement, announced on 26 June, provides no clear timetable for an Israeli withdrawal and leaves its implementation uncertain, prompting public protests in Beirut. Large signs displaying "Lebanon First" have replaced earlier pro‑Iran banners, reflecting the deep split the text has caused across Lebanese society. A cease‑fire between the two nations remains in effect, while the United States and Iran continue to be referenced in the broader diplomatic context.
