Israel airstrikes in southern Lebanon kill 11 and two Hezbollah commanders

Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon have killed at least 11 people and wounded 19, marking the deadliest escalation since a US-brokered ceasefire was established in June 2024. The strikes targeted the Nabatieh district, specifically the villages of Ansar and Deir al-Zahrani. In Ansar, a strike on a residential building reportedly killed seven people, including children. In Deir al-Zahrani, four people were killed.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the elimination of two senior Hezbollah commanders during these operations. Ali Muhammad Fakhr al-Din, a prominent commander of the Badr division, was killed in Deir al-Zahrani. Ali Samir Al-Haj Hassan, a battalion commander in the elite Radwan Force, was killed in Ansar. Israel stated these strikes were a response to a Hezbollah explosive drone attack that seriously wounded three Israeli soldiers.

Lebanese health officials report that the total death toll from Israeli military actions since March 2 has reached 4,346, with 12,301 injuries. Lebanese leaders have condemned the strikes, stating they undermine ongoing efforts to stabilize the region and implement the June framework agreement, which involves a gradual Israeli withdrawal in exchange for Hezbollah's disarmament.
