Israel political landscape shifts ahead of general election
As the Israeli general election approaches, the traditional political landscape is facing potential shifts. Benjamin Netanyahu, a long-standing figure in Israeli politics, is currently facing challenges in recent opinion polls.
One notable challenger is Gadi Eisenkot, a former Israeli military chief who served in Netanyahu’s war cabinet. Eisenkot is emerging as a significant figure for the opposition.
Beyond the primary divide between Netanyahu’s right-wing religious alliance and the broad opposition camp, new political forces may emerge. A potential third bloc is forming through new parties that identify as Zionist and center-right but refuse to align strictly with either Netanyahu or the existing opposition leadership. One such alliance, Zionist Home-The Reservists, led by Yoaz Hendel and Chili Tropper, aims to establish a statesmanlike government and emphasizes widespread military enlistment as a condition for coalition participation.
