Netanyahu to sue Haaretz and prepares for Knesset elections
Israeli political activity is intensifying ahead of the October 27 Knesset elections. A total of 38 candidate lists have been submitted to the Central Elections Committee. The Likud party, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has finalized its roster, which includes 35 candidates. Meanwhile, the Yashar party, led by Gadi Eisenkot, is currently polling ahead of Likud in recent surveys.
Simultaneously, Netanyahu has announced plans to sue the Haaretz newspaper and its authors, Shlomi Eldar and Ruth Yaval, for defamation. This follows a report alleging that UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed warned Netanyahu of a Hamas offensive ten days before the October 7 attacks. Netanyahu has dismissed these claims as fabricated, stating that a review of his call logs shows no such communication occurred. Former Shin Bet chief Ami Ayalon has commented that the possibility of such a warning is plausible.
In regional developments, Netanyahu, visiting troops on Mount Hermon in Syria, stated that Israel is very close to toppling the Iranian regime. He asserted that Israel maintains unprecedented control over the area from the Hermon peak to the Yarmouk River.
