Israel: Reports on Netanyahu warnings and genocide accusations

Reports suggest Netanyahu did not brief Israel’s security chiefs on this information, which an unnamed Shin Bet official stated could have altered the national security assessment. Additionally, reports indicate Israel rejected a Hamas offer to release all civilian hostages immediately following the October 7 attacks, and an IDF drone operator has alleged intentional firing on civilians during operations.

In response to international accusations of genocide in Gaza, a coalition of over 5,000 creative and political figures has signed an open letter organized by the Creative Community for Peace. The signatories, which include former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and former U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert Wilkie, reject the term, arguing that the legal standard of ‘specific intent’ required by the 1948 Genocide Convention has not been met. The group contends that applying the term to Israel has turned a grave legal concept into a political accusation.
