Israel soldiers' alleged abuse of Gaza detainee prompts mothers' claims

A photo released on social media shows a blindfolded Gaza man stripped to his underwear, bound and restrained while in Israeli custody. Israel's military confirmed the image is genuine and said the treatment depicted "does not align" with its values, but has not identified the detainee or disclosed his location.

Two Palestinian mothers, Rana Abu Nassar and Joudeh Al‑Ghoul, each say the man is their missing son—Abu Nassar identifies him as Osama, arrested on 19 March near the armistice line with his one‑year‑old child, while Al‑Ghoul refers to her son Amin, detained in November while traveling north in Gaza. Both mothers recognised distinctive physical details in the picture. Israel rejected claims that its forces abused Osama's son, attributing the child's leg marks to warning shots.

Around 1,200 Palestinians from Gaza are held under Israel's Internment of Unlawful Combatants Law, which permits indefinite detention. The Palestinian Prisoners Society has submitted the detainees' names to seek lawyer visits, noting the process is difficult and slow.
