Israel strikes kill eight in Gaza amid ceasefire

Nighttime Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip killed eight people, including a woman and a child, in the cities of Khan Younis, Deir al‑Balah and Gaza. The Israeli army has not commented on the attacks.

The strikes occurred despite a ceasefire that has been in place since October 2023, with both Israel and Hamas accusing each other of violations. Palestinian authorities say Israeli attacks have killed more than 1,200 people since the ceasefire began, with July seeing the highest monthly toll of 152 deaths.

Mediators and the UN‑backed Peace Council have drafted a plan to gradually disarm Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza. Hamas has agreed to the proposal, while Israel has not yet issued an official response.
