Ali al-Amoudi targeted in Israeli airstrike on Gaza City apartment

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Shin Bet have claimed responsibility for an airstrike in Gaza City targeting Ali al-Amoudi, a senior Hamas official and acting leader in the Gaza Strip. Israeli authorities described al-Amoudi as a key figure who succeeded Yahya Sinwar and was involved in the planning of the October 7 attacks. While the military is still verifying the outcome of the operation, reports indicate that al-Amoudi may have survived the strike, with some sources suggesting he left the targeted apartment a day prior to the attack.

The strike, which hit a residential building in the Rimal neighborhood, resulted in the deaths of at least five Palestinians, including four women. Among the deceased were members of the local Christian community, including Maysa Abu Daoud and her daughter Mary. The attack caused significant damage to the building and triggered fires in the surrounding area.

This incident occurred amidst a fragile ceasefire agreement established in October 2025. While Israel accuses Hamas of violating the truce by rearming, Hamas denies these allegations and accuses Israel of undermining the agreement. Palestinian health officials report that over 1,400 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli strikes since the ceasefire began.
