Israel to maintain military presence in Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has reaffirmed the government's determination to maintain military presence within security zones in Lebanon, Syria, and the Gaza Strip. During a visit to southern Lebanon, Katz stated that the military will not withdraw from these areas, asserting that the forces are present to protect Israel's northern communities and its troops.

Israeli forces currently operate approximately 10 kilometers deep into neighboring territory along the borders, conducting operations to destroy underground infrastructure and buildings. This stance persists despite a framework agreement between the governments of Lebanon and Israel. The agreement outlines the disarmament of Hezbollah and a progressive withdrawal of Israeli troops from southern Lebanon to be replaced by the Lebanese army, starting with pilot zones.

Hezbollah has categorically rejected the agreement and the prospect of disarmament. While violence in Lebanon has de-escalated following a memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran in mid-June, sporadic Israeli strikes and destruction continue to be reported in Beirut.
