Israel removes millions of tons of Gaza rubble, raising evidence concerns
Human‑rights monitors say Israeli forces have cleared at least 10 million tonnes of rubble from the Gaza Strip. The operation involves roughly 100 trucks each day moving debris to undisclosed sites inside Israel and the occupied West Bank, and about 400 pieces of heavy machinery operated by civilian contractors are used to demolish buildings and crush the material.
The Euro‑Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor warns that the speed and secrecy of the clearance aim to destroy physical evidence of alleged war crimes and genocide, including possible mass‑grave locations and the remains of thousands of missing persons estimated at around 8,500. An UN, World Bank and EU damage assessment reported more than 68 million tonnes of rubble in Gaza, with reconstruction costs exceeding $71 billion and $1.7 billion needed just to clear the debris. The International Criminal Court has already indicted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defence minister for war crimes related to the conflict.
