Israel urged to end Gaza offensive after Hamas and Islamic Jihad call

Hamas and Islamic Jihad held a joint meeting in Cairo, led by Hamas West Bank chief Zahir Cebbar and Islamic Jihad secretary‑general Ziyad Nehhale. The two groups issued a unified statement demanding that Israel halt all attacks on Gaza, withdraw its forces from the Strip, and allow immediate delivery of humanitarian aid. They called for the rapid formation of a national committee to assume governance of Gaza and address the population’s needs.

The declaration also addressed rising tensions in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, condemning accelerated settlement activity and alleged violations of Palestinian prisoners’ rights. In parallel, U.S. President Donald Trump and UN‑mediator Nickolay Mladenov reiterated support for the cease‑fire roadmap, noting Hamas’s acceptance of a detailed implementation plan for the second phase of the truce.
