Gaza ceasefire roadmap progress

After Hamas accepted the second‑phase cease‑fire roadmap, regional actors intensified diplomatic pressure on Israel. Qatar’s prime minister praised the acceptance and called on the international community to compel Israel to withdraw forces, allow continuous humanitarian aid and support a stabilisation force. The United States and the United Nations also voiced backing for the disarmament agreement.

In Cairo, Hamas and Islamic Jihad issued a joint statement demanding an immediate halt to Israeli attacks, a full withdrawal from Gaza, and the rapid formation of a national committee to govern the enclave and address humanitarian needs. The declaration condemned settlement expansion and alleged prisoner‑rights violations in the West Bank. U.S. President Donald Trump and UN mediator Nickolay Mladenov reiterated support for the roadmap, noting Hamas’s detailed acceptance of the second‑phase plan.

On 1 August 2026, Hamas and Islamic Jihad reconvened in Cairo, repeating the same demands and again urging Israel to end its offensive and allow aid. The following day, Israel publicly rejected the proposed cease‑fire agreement, objecting to three clauses and stating it would not halt attacks. While Israel signalled approval for an international stabilisation force, it objected to the participation of Turkey and Qatar. The United States maintained that a deal had been reached, and analysts warned that Israel’s stance could have political repercussions for Prime Minister Netanyahu.
