Israeli airstrikes cripple Lebanese hospitals, injuring staff and prompting Hezbollah rebuttal

The World Health Organization reported that Israeli bombardments in southern Lebanon have severely damaged hospitals, including the Jabal Amel facility in Tyre. At least 86 people, among them medical personnel, were wounded in the recent attack, and the emergency department and intensive‑care unit were rendered inoperable. WHO data show nearly 190 attacks on health services in the past three months, killing 128 health workers and injuring 332 others.

Hezbollah responded to Israeli claims about a supposed strike on the Government Hospital in Tebnine, calling them “false accusations” and describing the attacks on hospitals as violations of international humanitarian law and potential war crimes. The group urged the United Nations and international humanitarian organisations to act urgently to protect Lebanese medical infrastructure.

Both sides highlighted the humanitarian impact: patients face delays of up to 48 hours for care, maternity services are limited, and refugee camps housing about 130 000 displaced persons are at heightened risk of disease outbreaks. The UN‑brokered cease‑fire, repeatedly extended since mid‑April, remains fragile amid ongoing hostilities.
