Israeli Airstrikes Kill Lebanese Brigadier General and 14 Others in Southern Lebanon

On June 6, an Israeli airstrike hit a Lebanese Army vehicle traveling between Kfar Tebnit and Khardali in the Nabatieh Governorate, killing a Brigadier General, a Captain and another veteran serviceman. Lebanese army commander General Joseph Aoun condemned the strike as a violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty and international law, while the Israel Defense Forces said the vehicle was in a combat zone and opened an internal investigation.

Within days, further Israeli strikes across southern Lebanon killed at least 14 people, including four Red Cross paramedics, a child, and other civilians in towns such as Tyre, Marwanieh and Zifta. The attacks damaged a UNESCO World Heritage site in Tyre and prompted threats of retaliation from Iran. Israel’s defence minister said operations would continue against Hezbollah, while Iran warned of “more severe and crushing measures” if aggression persisted.
