Israeli army ends Ghafati brigade mission in southern Lebanon

The Israeli Defense Forces announced that the Ghafati brigade has completed its combat tasks in southern Lebanon after roughly eight months of operations. The formal hand‑over ceremony was held at Camp Felon, with northern command chief Rafi Milo speaking on the unit’s achievements.

According to the Israeli statement, the brigade had conducted defensive actions along the border and carried out ground attacks in areas such as al‑Khiyam, Bint Jbeil, the north of the Litani River and the Bofort highlands. The IDF claimed the operations destroyed hundreds of Hezbollah infrastructure targets, killed hundreds of fighters and seized more than a thousand weapons.

The withdrawal follows a U.S‑brokered framework agreement signed by Israel and Lebanon, which sets out a phased Israeli pull‑out from Lebanese territory and aims to restore Lebanon’s full sovereignty over its southern border. Israeli leaders reiterated their commitment to maintain a cease‑fire while the withdrawal process proceeds.
