Israeli strikes on Tyre, Lebanon kill at least 12 civilians

Israeli airstrikes hit southern Lebanon through the night, focusing on the city of Tyre and its suburbs. Lebanese health authorities reported at least 11 civilians killed in Tyre, including a woman, and another death elsewhere, bringing the total death toll to 12. More than 35 people were injured, among them three children.

The Israeli army issued an urgent warning urging residents to abandon their homes and move north of the Zahrani River, about 40 km from the border. The warning included the city’s Christian neighbourhood, which residents said was now 99 % empty. Large numbers of civilians fled on foot and by vehicle, setting up temporary shelters in nearby towns.

A strike also damaged a UNESCO‑listed archaeological site in Tyre, prompting Lebanon’s culture minister to call for protection of heritage sites. Additional shelling in the El Bas area killed three more people. The Israeli military said it had killed a combatant in a separate engagement near the Kiryat Seïmona area.
