Israeli Change Camp faces leadership struggle ahead of elections

Israel's opposition, known as the Change Camp, is currently facing internal struggles regarding leadership and political direction ahead of upcoming elections. While Benjamin Netanyahu's government continues to pursue sharp political and security policies, his opponents are divided over who should lead the movement and represent them in the next vote.

Key figures such as Naftali Bennett and Gadi Eisenkot are competing for influence and party size. Bennett has expressed willingness to accept a collective decision on a prime ministerial candidate but maintains that his faction is uniquely capable of state reform. Meanwhile, Eisenkot is focused on strengthening his own party, raising questions about whether individual party growth aligns with the strength of the broader coalition.

The Change Camp is not a homogeneous political bloc; it consists of various parties and figures with differing views on security, political stances, and the role of Arab parties. This lack of cohesion poses a challenge to unseating Netanyahu. In contrast, right-wing forces, including the Likud and more hardline religious and nationalist groups, appear to be consolidating their positions. Figures like Itamar Ben-Gvir are also working to maintain political influence, contributing to a general shift toward the right.
