Israeli drone hits hospital in Nabatieh as Lebanon‑Israel tensions flare

An Israeli drone struck the Ghandour hospital in Nabatieh al‑Fawqa, Lebanon, while Israeli combat aircraft attacked the village of Braashit in the Bint Jbeil district. Simultaneous house demolitions were reported in Hadatha and heavy explosions in Kounine and Tayri. The attacks follow a U.S.–backed framework agreement signed on 26 June, which outlines a phased Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory, a clause rejected by Hezbollah as “non‑existent” and “demeaning”. Lebanese authorities say the conflict has already killed 4,298 people and injured 12,196 since 2 March.

Research published by NRC revealed that between 2 March and 2 June, 28 aid workers were killed in “double‑tap” strikes—follow‑up attacks targeting rescuers and journalists—and more than 30 were wounded. The report criticises Israel’s justification for targeting Hezbollah and calls for the Netherlands and the EU to pressure Israel over alleged war crimes, noting the Netherlands is the EU’s largest investor in Israel. The framework agreement includes a provision to halt hostile actions in international legal forums, underscoring calls for accountability.

Hezbollah has dismissed the agreement, warning that linking Israeli withdrawal to disarmament of armed groups crosses a red line. The situation raises concerns over civilian protection under international humanitarian law and the effectiveness of diplomatic efforts to de‑escalate the conflict.
