Israel's UN Ambassador Danny Danon Engages in Heated Clash Over Blacklist

During a United Nations General Assembly session marking the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict, Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, shouted at senior UN officials. He demanded that Pramila Patten, the Secretary‑General’s special representative on conflict‑related sexual violence, resign and accused her and the UN of a “politically motivated” campaign that placed Israel on a blacklist alongside Hamas, ISIS and Boko Haram. Danon also rebuked Vanessa Frazier, the UN’s special representative for children and armed conflict, telling her to be quiet and calling her report “shameful”.

The UN officials defended their findings, saying the reports were based on verified evidence that documented patterns of sexual violence by Israeli forces and serious violations against Palestinian children. The clash reflects escalating diplomatic tension between Israel and the United Nations amid the ongoing Gaza war and criticism of Israel’s conduct in conflict zones. Israel’s foreign ministry has warned it will cut ties with UN Secretary‑General António Guterres over the issue.
