West Bank: Two Palestinians killed during raid in al-Mughayyir
Two Palestinian teenagers, identified as 16-year-old Khalil Rasem Khalil Shahada and 19-year-old Omar Mohammad Naji Al-Nassan, were killed during a raid in the village of al-Mughayyir, northeast of Ramallah. Local officials and the Palestinian Red Crescent reported that the youths were shot by live ammunition—one in the neck and one in the back—as residents attempted to confront Israeli settlers who were reportedly attempting to steal livestock.
Village council head Amin Abu Aliya stated that Israeli snipers took positions on rooftops during the incident. Conversely, the Israeli army reported that its forces entered the village to secure the return of livestock belonging to Israeli civilians and that a violent riot broke out, during which soldiers fired at ‘key instigators’ who were throwing stones.
This incident occurs amid a surge in violence in the West Bank. According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), at least 79 Palestinians, including 19 children, have been killed by Israeli forces or settlers since the beginning of 2026. Additionally, the Palestinian Colonisation and Wall Resistance Commission reported that 628 attacks against Palestinians and their property occurred during August, targeting thousands of trees and causing significant property damage.
