Israeli forces detain 600 Palestinians in West Bank and Jerusalem in July

The Palestinian Center for Prisoner Studies reported that Israeli occupation authorities carried out 600 arrests in the West Bank and Jerusalem during July. Among those detained were 55 children under 18 and 14 women and girls. The cumulative number of Palestinians arrested since the Oct. 7, 2023 conflict began has risen to 24,600.

The arrests were part of broader mass‑arrest campaigns that involved raiding homes, destroying property, and holding detainees inside confiscated houses after evicting owners. Detainees were subjected to field interrogations lasting several hours, followed by humiliation, beatings and threats. Most were released after short periods, while others were transferred to detention centers or placed in administrative detention without charge.

The centre also noted that 136 prisoners from Gaza were released during the same period, including 40 who had previously been arrested in the West Bank. Several of those released suffered serious health and psychological problems due to alleged torture and neglect. Reports highlighted ongoing mistreatment of female prisoners in Israel’s Damun prison, including denial of medical care.
