Israeli forces kill officer in Lebanon clash and strike militants in southern Syria
The Israeli Defense Forces reported that a senior officer, Captain David Hazut, was killed and another soldier wounded during a night‑time clash with Hezbollah fighters in the town of Deir Sirian in southern Lebanon. Israeli officials said the engagement followed the unit’s movement to verify a target, and subsequent operations were launched to locate additional Hezbollah elements.
In a separate statement, the Israeli army said its troops eliminated a number of armed militants in the security zone of southern Syria, conducting raids near the villages of Maʿariya, Abdin and the Tella al‑Mughr area. The operations, described as targeting "terrorist" elements, were part of Israel’s broader effort to maintain control over its security perimeter along the Lebanese and Syrian borders.
