Israeli forces record 467 violations against Palestinian journalists in first half of 2026

The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate reported that Israeli troops and settlers committed 467 violations against journalists and media workers in the occupied West Bank and Gaza during the first six months of 2026. The breaches included 192 cases of coverage denial and crew detentions, 27 arrests, 29 incidents of live‑fire targeting, 78 uses of tear‑gas or sound bombs, and numerous assaults, equipment seizures and media outlet closures. Eight journalists were killed in this period, raising the total number of journalist deaths since October 2023 to 264, alongside 226 injuries, 193 arrests and the destruction of 187 media premises.

Since the conflict escalated in October 2023, the syndicate documented a cumulative 4,127 violations, affecting 264 journalists, 713 family members, and resulting in the demolition of 140 homes belonging to media workers. The organization called on the international community and press freedom bodies to intervene and protect Palestinian journalists.
