Israeli forces tighten crackdown on Palestinian militants in West Bank

Sergeant G of the 50th Battalion of the Israeli Defense Forces described an intensified operational presence inside the Jenin refugee camp since early May. The unit conducts defensive patrols, rapid response to attacks, and continuous day‑and‑night operations to prevent militants from re‑entering the camp and to gather intelligence. He cited a recent incident where forces quickly neutralised a shooter and pursued further offensive actions to disrupt enemy momentum.

Since Itamar Ben‑Gvir assumed the role of minister overseeing security prisons, conditions for Palestinian prisoners have been sharply curtailed. Luxury amenities such as unlimited showers, television, radio, and newspapers have been removed, and strict discipline measures—including limited food and restricted media access—have been imposed. Prison officials report that the changes aim to eliminate the “luxury” environment previously afforded to convicted militants and to reinforce deterrence.
