Israeli forces uncover extensive Hezbollah tunnel complex near Metula

Israeli military units, including the Golani Brigade, Maglan and Yahalom, have exposed a large underground tunnel network built by Hezbollah in the Bofar region of southern Lebanon, roughly six kilometres from the Israeli town of Metula. The complex comprises multiple tunnels, weapon depots with NLA rockets, anti‑tank missiles, grenades, ammunition, as well as water and electricity systems, living quarters, kitchens, bathrooms and a medical treatment room. Israeli officials say the tunnels were constructed with Iranian backing and were intended to serve as a central operational base for attacks against Israel. The operation follows a broader campaign in which the Israel Defense Forces struck about 150 Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon, during which two Lebanese army officers were mistakenly killed, prompting condemnation from Lebanon’s prime minister.

The effort aims to secure the area, neutralize the tunnel threat and protect communities in Israel’s northern region.
