Hebron: Israeli military operation displaces thousands of Palestinians FAST-MOVING

The Israeli military has launched a large-scale operation in the occupied West Bank city of Hebron, following a Friday attack at a military checkpoint that killed two Israeli soldiers and wounded three others. The operation, which includes the IDF, Shin Bet, and Border Police, has resulted in the forced displacement of between 2,600 and 3,171 Palestinians, according to local municipal authorities and the Palestinian Authority.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that displaced residents will not be permitted to return until Hamas infrastructure in the area is dismantled. The military has conducted raids in neighborhoods such as Ein Deir Baha and Al-Jalda, demolishing a three-story building and industrial facilities. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich confirmed he ordered the destruction of these structures.

The crackdown has imposed a strict lockdown on Hebron, affecting essential services, education, and movement. Local authorities reported that the blockade has forced businesses to close and disrupted waste management and schooling. The operation occurs amid heightened tensions and just days before Israel’s general elections, scheduled for Tuesday.
