Israel’s IDF says it killed an armed militant in Lebanon’s Majdal Zoun security zone

The Israeli Defence Forces announced that troops identified and eliminated an “armed terrorist” operating inside the security zone in southern Lebanon’s Majdal Zoun area, calling the act a “blatant violation of the cease‑fire agreement.” The IDF said soldiers opened fire and, after extensive searches, “eliminated” the individual. In the same operation an Israeli helicopter conducted a “broad sweep” of the village, launching five missiles, while a separate strike on nearby Mansouri wounded one person.

Separate Israeli air attacks on the same day hit a vehicle near Nabatieh al‑Fawqa, killing four civilians – a school principal, her mother, a foreign domestic worker and a Syrian laborer – despite the cease‑fire in place since late June. Lebanese state media reported no immediate Israeli comment on the civilian deaths. The attacks occur amid a US‑backed framework agreement signed in Washington that calls for Hezbollah’s disarmament, a gradual Israeli withdrawal, and deployment of the Lebanese army in the south. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun says the Israeli presence hinders army deployment and peace efforts, while Israel maintains the right to act against perceived Hezbollah threats.
