Israeli military operations and demolitions impact West Bank and Jerusalem
Israeli authorities and military operations have led to increased displacement and tension in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. In the village of Kalendiya, northwest of Jerusalem, the demolition of a two-story house left 15 Palestinians homeless. Authorities cited the lack of building permits for the demolition, a justification frequently used in the region.
In the West Bank town of Kusra, the Mayor reported that Israeli forces have besieged three Palestinian homes in the Ras el-Ayn area for nine days. The siege has restricted access to food, water, and electricity for approximately 13 people. While local authorities managed to deliver some supplies through international cooperation, the Mayor noted that the military has occupied one of the homes, converting it into a military headquarters.
Reports indicate a rising trend in structure demolitions. In July, Palestinian resistance commissions reported 80 demolitions targeting 165 structures, including homes and agricultural facilities. While Israel maintains these actions target unlicensed constructions, Palestinian and international human rights groups argue the policy aims to limit urban development and forcibly displace Palestinian residents.
