Overview

Israeli military activity and settler violence in the West Bank continue to escalate, characterized by widespread arrest raids, territorial displacement, and intensified settler attacks. Military operations have intensified with large-scale raids in Qalqilya, Azzun, Nablus, and Jenin. As of late September, Defense Minister Israel Katz imposed a general closure on the West Bank and its crossings through October 3, restricting Palestinian movement and impacting essential services. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has warned that these conditions have become ‘unbearable.’

Settler violence has surged, often targeting specific families or villages. In Koper, north of Ramallah, 19-year-old Baha Sami Amin al-Natsheh died from injuries sustained during a settler attack. Following the shooting, Israeli forces deployed heavy amounts of tear gas, and the Palestinian Red Crescent reported that forces prevented ambulance crews from reaching the injured. In a separate incident, 41-year-old Rafat Khairi Abu Khalil was killed during detention at the Anabta checkpoint near Tulkarm.

A report from the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission indicates that 62,916 attacks have been carried out against Palestinians, their lands, and property in the West Bank and Jerusalem since October 7, 2023. Of these, 48,174 were attributed to the Israeli military and 14,742 to settlers. The report notes that settler violence resulted in the deaths of 66 Palestinians and caused 1,182 fires targeting property. Furthermore, 1,814 demolition operations destroyed 5,059 facilities, including 1,894 inhabited homes, while approximately 64,200 dunams of land were reportedly seized or placed under control.

Tensions have also risen in Jerusalem, where hundreds of settlers entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound to perform religious rites during the Sukkot holiday, while police restricted access for Muslim worshippers. UN data indicates that more than 80 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank since the beginning of 2026.
