Israeli Military Unit 2640-Uriah Removes Gaza Rubble, Risks Destroying Evidence

Israeli forces, including the irregular Unit 2640‑Uriah operating under the Gaza Division, and civilian contractors have launched a large‑scale operation to clear, crush and transport rubble from neighborhoods they destroyed in the Gaza Strip. The activity is carried out without official records, independent oversight, or coordination with forensic teams, raising concerns that vital evidence of war crimes and the remains of victims could be lost.

Euro‑Med Human Rights Monitor estimates that at least 10 million tonnes of debris have already been removed, out of an estimated 68 million tonnes of rubble across Gaza. About 400 pieces of heavy machinery are active in eastern and southern Gaza, loading debris onto trucks that leave the territory daily. The operation is described as unilateral and not part of humanitarian rescue or reconstruction efforts.
