Israeli Minister Yossi Fox seeks three‑month freeze on yeshiva student arrests

Government Secretary Yossi Fox sent a formal letter to Foreign Affairs and Security Committee chair Boaz Bismuth urging the rapid adoption of a bill that would suspend criminal arrests of yeshiva students for three months, until after the upcoming elections. The draft law proposes a temporary freeze on detention procedures while establishing a dedicated oversight mechanism for the students.

Fox and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu argue that the arrests are counter‑productive, widening the gap with the Haredi community and risking internal unrest. The committee is slated to begin deliberations on the proposal on Tuesday, with the aim of fast‑tracking its passage.
