Israel drone strike in Lebanon wounds six near Syrian border

An Israeli military drone strike in Lebanon’s Hermel district, near the Syrian border, has wounded six people, according to the Lebanese health ministry. The casualties include five Syrian nationals, two of whom are women, and one Lebanese national. The strike reportedly targeted a vehicle in the community of Hawsh Al-Sayyed Ali.

The Israeli military stated that the operation targeted a Syrian terrorist identified as Yusuf Ali al-Hassoun. Israeli officials alleged that al-Hassoun was operating under the direction of the Iranian regime and was planning attacks against Israeli military and civilian targets in southern Syria.

The incident occurred in an area that had largely seen fewer such strikes since a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah was established in June. This latest action follows a period of increased Israeli military activity in Syria and Lebanon since the change in Syrian leadership in December 2024.
