Israeli opposition forms alliance to unseat Netanyahu
Four opposing Israeli political movements have agreed to cooperate in an attempt to replace Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the upcoming elections scheduled for October 27. The coalition, which includes the Yashar party, Democrats, Israel Beiteinu, and the Together alliance, spans different parts of the political spectrum but is united by the goal to preserve Israel as a Jewish and democratic state.
Public opinion polls indicate a tight race between the opposition bloc and the coalition supporting Netanyahu, though no single group appears positioned to secure a majority in the 120-seat Knesset. The election occurs amidst significant internal crises, including debates over political accountability, security lapses, and the military service of ultra-Orthodox Jews.
Political analysts suggest that even if the opposition succeeds, fundamental Israeli policies regarding Gaza and the West Bank may see little change. The election is also being held under intense international scrutiny regarding military actions in Gaza and Lebanon, as well as settlement construction in the West Bank.
