Israeli opposition lawmaker calls for Netanyahu's removal

Israeli opposition lawmaker Gilad Kariv of the Democrat Party has called for the removal of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, describing his departure from power as an ‘existential need’ for Israeli society.

Kariv criticized Netanyahu for his handling of military investigations regarding the October 7, 2023, attacks, alleging that the Prime Minister has avoided addressing failures in national security. While opposition parties and segments of the public are demanding a state commission of inquiry to investigate the Hamas attacks, Netanyahu’s government has resisted, favoring a politically appointed commission instead.

Netanyahu faces ongoing legal challenges, including corruption charges and an International Criminal Court warrant regarding allegations of war crimes in the Gaza Strip. Public support for Netanyahu and his Likud party is reportedly declining ahead of the Knesset elections scheduled for October 27.
