Israeli opposition leaders sign pact to oust Netanyahu

Five prominent members of Israel’s Zionist opposition signed a non-aggression pact on September 26, aiming to unseat incumbent Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the upcoming October 27 election. The meeting took place at the Tel Aviv residence of opposition leader Yair Lapid.

The coalition of leaders includes former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett (leader of Beyachad), former Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot (leader of the Yashar party), Yair Golan (leader of the Democrats party), and Avigdor Liberman (head of Yisrael Beiteinu). In a joint statement, the leaders expressed that despite their ideological differences, their shared goal is to form a “Zionist, statesmanlike government dedicated to repair and reconstruction.”

While the pact seeks to prevent mutual attacks among the opposition, political analysts note that the group remains ideologically diverse. Most members maintain right-wing stances on security and do not support the establishment of a Palestinian state. Additionally, the leaders have not fundamentally challenged Israel’s military actions in Gaza or against other regional actors, focusing instead on political reconstruction and institutional reform.
