Israel political parties finalize lists amid tight election polls

Israeli political parties have entered a decisive phase as they finalize and register their candidate lists with the Knesset. This transition marks the shift from closed-door negotiations to open competition for voter support.

Recent polling shows a highly fragmented political landscape. A Medgam Institute poll for Channel 12 indicates that Gadi Ayalon's Yesh Atid party leads with 25 seats, while Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud party follows with 21 seats. In that same poll, Ayalon was preferred as Prime Minister with 42% support compared to 35% for Netanyahu.

Another poll by Kan Channel presents a tighter race, placing Netanyahu's bloc at 52 seats and Ayalon's bloc at 51. The poll also noted that the Hendel and Zilikh alliance successfully crossed the electoral threshold with 4 seats.

Political analysts suggest that efforts to unify various opposition lists, including those of Yair Lapid, Gadi Ayalon, and Naftali Bennett, may be too late to effectively challenge Netanyahu's bloc. Meanwhile, the rise of religious Zionism is noted as a significant shift in the country's political center of gravity.
