Israel elections: Eisenkot leads Netanyahu in polls ahead of October 27 vote

As Israel approaches the October 27 legislative elections, recent polling indicates a highly fragmented political landscape where no single bloc is expected to secure the 61-seat majority required to form a government.

Polling data shows Gadi Eisenkot, leader of the Yashar party, leading Benjamin Netanyahu in prime minister preference, with some polls placing Eisenkot at 48 percent compared to Netanyahu's 41 percent. While Yashar is projected to be a leading party, potentially securing between 21 and 26 seats, the Likud party remains a major contender with projections ranging from 18 to 20 seats.

Political tensions are high as opposition leaders clash over strategy. Avigdor Lieberman has accused Eisenkot of attempting to siphon votes from the opposition to eventually negotiate a coalition with Netanyahu. Meanwhile, Arab-led parties are positioned to play a decisive role in coalition negotiations, despite opposition from both major blocs.

In terms of policy, the B’Yachad party, representing a segment of the opposition, has proposed restructuring diaspora relations by transferring responsibility from the Ministry of Diaspora Affairs to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure more professional handling of international Jewish community ties.
