Israeli settlers attack diplomats and journalists in Taybeh
Masked Israeli settlers launched attacks against Palestinian residents, journalists, and European diplomats in the West Bank village of Taybeh during an olive harvest on October 17. The incidents occurred while international observers, including representatives from France, Belgium, and Poland, were participating in the harvest to document the season.
Reports indicate that settlers intercepted civilian and diplomatic vehicles, demanding identification and obstructing movement. A vehicle belonging to the Belgian consulate was damaged, and Bernard Baudoux, the mayor of Aulnoye-Aymeries, was reportedly physically assaulted. Other victims included a Washington Post photographer and delegates from the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem.
In response to the surge in settler violence, U.S. officials expressed concern, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio stating the administration has requested the Israeli government to crack down on such incidents. Following the violence, U.S. diplomats visited Taybeh to meet with the local Christian community. Israeli police reported the arrest of 10 individuals in connection with the weekend's events.
