On 26 July 2026 Israeli settlers set fire to the Al‑Rahma mosque in Qusra and a second mosque in the village of Kour in the occupied West Bank, spraying graffiti that read “Jewish revenge” and other slogans. The arson followed a deadly clash on 24 July 2026 in the village of Tell (Tal) near Nablus, where four Palestinians and two Israeli soldiers were killed after a Palestinian seized a settler’s weapon. Israeli political leaders – Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, National‑Security Minister Itamar Ben‑Gvir and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu – publicly called for “revenge” and the destruction of villages such as Tell, Iraq Burin and Beit Furik. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs recorded 3,033 settler attacks in the West Bank between January 2025 and June 2026, and settler‑related crimes rose to 660 in the first half of 2026, a 50 % increase over the previous year. Israeli forces carried out raids on 29 July 2026 in numerous West Bank towns, arresting dozens of Palestinians. The surge in violence has drawn condemnation from international bodies and human‑rights groups, who warn the attacks constitute collective punishment and a further escalation of the conflict.
